The 5-Minute Positioning Audit Every Coach Should Do Before Their Next Discovery Call

Your prospect has already decided before the call starts. These five questions reveal exactly what impression you're making — and where to fix it first.

Your prospect has already decided — before the call starts.

Before anyone books a discovery call with you, they’ve done their research. They’ve visited your website, read your bio, maybe scrolled your LinkedIn or read an article. By the time they’re on the calendar, they’ve already formed an opinion about whether you’re worth the investment.

This five-minute audit tells you what that opinion is likely to be.

The 5-minute audit

Open your website. Imagine you’re a prospect who found you through a referral or a Google search. Work through these five questions honestly.

1. Above the fold: can a stranger explain what you do in 10 seconds?

Read your headline and subheadline as if for the first time. Would someone immediately know who you help, what transformation you offer, and why you’re different from the other coach they’re considering? If the answer requires reading three paragraphs, it’s too slow.

2. Social proof: do you have it, and is it specific?

“Emma is a fantastic coach who really gets it” is not proof. “I raised my rates from $200/hour to $600/hour within 8 weeks of working with Emma” is proof. Look at your testimonials. Do they name numbers, timelines, and specific outcomes?

3. The about page: are you the guide, or the hero?

Your about page should be about your client’s journey, not yours. Yes, your credentials matter — but they matter as context for what you can do for them. If your about page reads like a LinkedIn summary, it’s working against you.

4. The CTA: is there one, and is it everywhere it should be?

Every page of your website should have a single, clear call to action. Usually “Book a free discovery call.” Check every page. If the CTA is buried, unclear, or absent — fix that today. It’s the cheapest change with the highest return.

5. The overall aesthetic: does it match what you charge?

This is the one most coaches skip because it’s uncomfortable. But it’s the first thing a prospect feels. If you charge $1,000/day, your website should feel like it was built by someone who charges $1,000/day. Does it?

What to do with the results

If you found issues in two or more of these areas, your positioning is doing active damage to your business. It’s not just failing to attract clients — it’s costing you the ones you almost had.

The good news: most of these are fixable without rebuilding from scratch.

Start with the one that made you most uncomfortable to answer. That’s where the most revenue is waiting.

Want a personal audit of your current positioning? Book a discovery call — we’ll spend 30 minutes going through it together and leave with a clear priority list.
